The Scandinavian monetary union disintegrated in 1914, when Denmark, Norway and Sweden decided to keep the name of their own currency. The Norwegian currency as far as Norway is concerned.
The 50 krone note shows the Ulvær lighthouse and means "the sea that unites us". The 100 nok note has a picture of the famous ship Gokstad, representing "the sea that takes us into the world". The 200 nok has a picture of a codfish - "the sea that feeds us". The 500 nok note depicts a lifeboat, signalling that "the sea that gives us prosperity" and finally, the 1,000 nok note is purple, with a powerful wave at sea - "the sea that moves us forward".
